Killarney Golf Club; Kerry
Length: 7181 Yards Par: 72
www.killarney-golf.com
The Killeen course is very much the flagship course at the club. The Killarney lakes and high mountain range provide an imposing backdrop to this Championship course. Re-opened in June 2006 the course is slightly longer with faster greens that have been brought closer to the water hazards around the course. At 6564 metres it will challenge long hitters with accuracy being vital as there is water on virtually every hole. Nick Faldo on winning The Irish Open in 1991 was one of only three players to finish under par. The challenging golf is matched by the spectacular views with the 10th being a firm favourite where you are playing virtually onto the lake.
Tralee; Dingle
Length: 6890 Yards Par: 71
www.traleegolfclub.com
Designed and built by Arnold Palmer, this stunning setting represents a true paradise for those willing to challenge what is widely acclaimed as one of the finest links courses in the world. Smitten at first sight, Palmer would later go on record with this memorable quote: "I may have designed the first nine, but surely God designed the back nine". It comes as no surprise to learn that, due to the majestic beauty of this setting, Palmer choose it to be his first and, arguably, his finest golf course in Europe.
Tralee, in addition to boasting a clear view of the Atlantic Ocean from every hole, has a fully qualified resident professional, fully stocked Pro Shop, a spacious and comfortable restaurant and bar and it has earned a reputation for having a most friendly and relaxed atmosphere for members and visitors alike. A trip to Southwest Ireland could not be complete without playing this most precious and unpretentious of golfing jewels.
Bantry; Beara Peninsula
Length: 6960 Yards Par: 71
www.bantrygolf.com
The 170 acre Bantry Bay Golf Club is a Christy O'Connor Junior and Eddie Hackett designed USGA standard course, located, a short drive outside Bantry town in West Cork, Ireland.
Bantry Bay features... an 18 hole Championship golf course, which is open year round. It is situated in a very scenic setting with 14 holes overlooking the bay. There are lovely sea views to the Islands and the Beara mountains.
The Bantry Bay golf course serves up a nice challenge to the scratch and handicap golfer alike, from the 126 meter par 3 to the long 487 meter par 5.
Although a relatively new course, it has attracted over 100 overseas members, perhaps enticed by lifetime overseas membership.
Ballybunion; Galway
Length: 6598 Yards Par: 71
www.ballybuniongolfclub.com
After playing Ballybunion for the first time, a man would think that the game of golf originated here. Located on the Shannon estuary, it is a true seaside links course, virtually treeless and a course of sharp contours throughout. There appears to be no man- made influence. It looks like a course laid out on land back in the 10th century. There is a wild look to the place the long grass covering the dunes that pitch and roll throughout the course making it very intimidating. Yet the course is eminently fair. While there would appear to be a lot of blind shots, there aren't. Even where there are blind shots, you are given a good idea where you must hit the ball.
Bearna Golf Club; Galway
Length: 6174 Yards Par: 72
www.bearnagolfclub.com
Set amidst the celebrated beauty of West of Ireland landscape on the fringe of Connemara, and enjoying commanding views of Galway Bay, the Burren, the Aran Islands and tugged hinterlands, Bearna Golf course is already being hailed as one of Ireland's finest.
